Syria Attacks
Syria continues to endure devastating violence—from airstrikes to militant attacks—leaving civilians in constant danger. Hundreds have died in just the last few years, and sacred sites lie in ruins.
A ceasefire is urgently needed to protect lives, restore stability, and open the door to peace.
2025
August 18: ISIS attacks continue in civilian locations, and further unrest has continued in Alawite regions, but no civilian death toll is available yet.
August 10: An assault on al-Majdal led to casualties and displacement of both fighters and civilians, but exact numbers have not been released.
August 1: Israeli airstrikes pick up in Damascus and clashes renew in Suwayda. Exact casualties are unknown.
July 31: By the end of July, 89 civilian deaths were reported, including 13 children and 10 women.
July 23: Extrajudicial killings by unknown actors killed at least 5 civilians, one by torture.
July 18-22: Sporadic fighting, airstrikes, and political unrest continued, resulting in several daily deaths.
July 16: An Israeli airstrike in Damascus on a central government facility in a civilian district killed 3 civilians and wounded 34.
July 13-17: Israeli airstrikes, along with intercommunal and regime-clashes, resulted in 254 deaths, including civilians and medics in Sweida Province.
July 3: An Israeli airstrike on a civilian vehicle killed one person.
June 28: An Israeli airstrike in Damascus on a civilian building killed one and injured 2.
June 26: A suspected Russian airstrike on a market killed three and injured 5.
June 21: An Israeli airstrike on a civilian home killed one person.
June 17: An airstrike on a displacement camp from an unidentified source killed 2 and injured 3.
June 16: An attack on a market in Aleppo killed 4 civilians.
June 11-12: Israeli forces conducted an overnight raid in the southwestern village of Beit Jinn, killing one civilian and detaining several suspected Hamas operatives.
May 30: Israeli aircraft conducted airstrikes targeting military installations near the village of Jable, south of Latakia. The strikes also hit sites on the fringes of Tartous and Latakia along the Mediterranean coast, killing one and injuring three others.
May 19: An SDF fighter was killed in an attack by Islamic State in eastern Syria.
January 15: An SDF fighter was executed by ISIS cells, and his body was dumped in Abu Khashab town, western Deir ez-Zor.
January 11: A suicide bombing attempt on the Sayyidah Zeinab shrine near Damascus was foiled by the Syrian interim government led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).
January 7: Two ISIS gunmen attacked in the Jazara Mashhour area of western Deir ez-Zor, killing four SDF fighters.
January 2–3: The SDF, with U.S. support, launched a strike near Dayr az-Zawr, resulting in the capture of an ISIS attack cell leader.
2024
December 8: U.S. Air Force jets struck 75 ISIS targets in central Syria on the same day the Assad regime collapsed.
September: ISIS conducted at least 16 attacks in central Syria, killing 32 regime soldiers and one civilian, and injuring at least 21 others.
November 20: Airstrikes near Palmyra, reportedly from the U.S. base at Al-Tanf, hit a weapons depot, causing major damage and casualties.
August 2: A suicide bombing in Azaz killed over 50 people and injured more than 212.
April 1: An Israeli airstrike on the Iranian embassy in Damascus killed eight members of the IRGC, including a brigadier general.
February 2–3: The U.S. conducted airstrikes on Iran-affiliated militias in Syria following a deadly drone attack on American troops in Jordan.
January 15: Iran launched missile strikes in Syria, targeting what it called terrorist strongholds in response to the Kerman bombings.
2023
November: ISIS launched coordinated attacks on pro-government forces in Raqqa, Homs, and Deir ez-Zor, killing 26 militia members and four soldiers.
October 5: A drone strike on a military graduation ceremony in Homs killed more than 112 people and injured over 120.
March: ISIS carried out at least 69 attacks across Aleppo, Homs, Hama, Raqqa, and Deir Ez Zor.
2022
December 29: A rocket attack on a convoy of buses carrying oil workers in eastern Syria killed 10 people.
Throughout the year: The Syrian Desert campaign intensified, with ISIS launching repeated attacks against pro-government forces, causing significant casualties.
